
2025 Abstract Submission Information
SAMBA members are invited and encouraged to submit abstracts for the 2025 Annual Meeting to be held in Phoenix, Arizona, from May 15-17, 2025.
Abstract Submission Process: Poster presentations will be paper posters. Presentations will take place on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
Abstracts submissions will be accepted in one of three categories:
- Original Research – This category provides the opportunity to present your original research.
- Medically Challenging Case – This category provides the opportunity to present a medically challenging case.
- Quality Improvement – This category provides the opportunity to present Safety/Quality Improvement projects with a focus on ambulatory anesthesia.
The entire abstract is limited to 500 words. Abstracts pertaining to ambulatory anesthesia, non-operating room anesthesia and office-based anesthesia are sought, such as:
- Analyses of data obtained in anesthesia preoperative clinics
- Comparison of patient outcomes following regional nerve blocks
- Comparison of anesthetic techniques in non-operating room settings such as endoscopy centers, pain management centers, and intensive care units
Submissions are graded by the scientific papers committee for strength of research and originality.
Award Opportunities: Finalists will present a short oral presentation and receive their award during the meeting on Saturday, May 17, 2025. Notifications will be sent prior to the meeting and require attendance to receive the award.
- Dr. Rebecca S. Twersky Research Award: $2,000 award for the highest rated research or quality improvement abstract by a junior attending.*
- QA/Ambulatory Patient Safety Research Award (presented by both SAMBA and Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation): $500 for the abstract rated highest in the research and promotion of patient safety.
- Excellence and Innovation Award: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for the highest rated abstract submissions.
- White Mountain Award: $1,000 split among 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for the best research by an anesthesia trainee**
- SAMBA Travel Award: $1,000 travel award to an anesthesia trainee whose original research abstract is accepted for presentation**
*Junior attendings are defined as attendings within ten years of residency completion and at Assistant Professor level or below and must be the primary author to be considered for the Rebecca S. Twersky Research Award. **Trainees are defined as medical students, residents, or fellows and must be the primary author to be considered for the White Mountain or Travel Awards.
Deadlines: The Scientific Papers Committee requests that abstracts be received by February 17, 2025, at 11:59 pm (Central Time).
The Committee expects to notify authors of acceptance/denial the week of March 3, 2025.
IMPORTANT: The author(s) MUST submit their abstract through Abstract Scorecard, this year’s Abstract submission site, for consideration. It is free to create an account in Abstract Scorecard (when you visit the abstract submission site, click “Begin Submitting” and enter your information).
Submission Rules:
- There are no restrictions on the number of submissions per submitter or presentations per presenter.
- The author submitting the abstract must be a SAMBA member. Join or renew here.
- Artificial intelligence may assist in the abstract writing process (e.g., grammar checks or language enhancement) but is prohibited from writing abstracts in their entirety. The abstract must reflect the authors’ own words, insights, and conclusions.
- The abstract text must be in English.
- The abstract is limited to 500 words for all sections. Sections for the original research and quality improvement submissions include: introduction, methods, results, and conclusion. Sections for medically challenging cases include: introduction, case report, and learning points.
- Please pick one track for your submission: general ambulatory anesthesia, non-operating room anesthesia, office-based anesthesia, dental anesthesia, ophthalmologic anesthesia, pediatric anesthesia, or regional anesthesia.
- Please note if the abstract authors received any industry support in performing the research or authoring the submission.
- Please note who will be the presenting author.
- Please note if the submission qualifies for any of the awards during submission.
- Please use generic (not brand) names.
- Research presented should not be published in an indexed journal prior to the Annual Meeting.
- Human subjects should not be identifiable.
